Browser Extension

Browser Extension

To make password management and logon seamless, Zoho Vault gives you the option to securely synchronize passwords across browsers using browser extensions. These extensions help you auto-fill passwords and automatically log in to websites. You can also add secrets to Zoho Vault directly from the extension whenever you use a new account in any web application. What do browser extensions do?

With the browser extension, you can log in to websites and applications without going to Zoho Vault’s GUI. Click on any secret in the Secrets tab to view its username, password, and file attachments. You will also be able to view action icons, which helps you to auto log on, edit secret, share secret, change password, and more, at the end of each secret field.

View secrets

You can view all the secrets you own and the ones shared with you by clicking the Secrets tab in the browser extension. The associated chambers to a secret can be viewed by clicking Associated Chambers under More Actions. This will display the Chamber’s name, owner of the chamber and the Permission level granted to you for the chamber. Alternatively, you can view secrets specific to a group by clicking the Chambers tab.

Search secrets

You can search for secrets directly from the search bar at the top left corner of your browser extension by secret name or URL. You can also filter them based on predefined filters, such as ‘all secrets’, ‘favorites’, ‘domain matching’, and ‘chambers’ from the ‘Secrets’ tab.

Add secret

You can add a new secret to Zoho Vault directly from the browser extension. Click the Add Secret option. This will help you fill the details and save them to the Vault. In addition, whenever you log in to a new website or application, a popup will appear with an option to add the credentials as a secret to Zoho Vault. You can disable this popup for selected sites by clicking the Never save button on the popup. You can also completely disable popups for all sites by checking the Prevent Zoho Vault from prompting to save/update passwords option from the Preferences tab under Settings.

Automatically log in to websites

The auto logon option will log you in to any website or application for which the credentials have been stored in Vault. Click the Auto Logon icon associated with that Secret. A new browser window will open and log you in.

Auto-fill username and password

Auto-filling usernames and passwords is easy when you store your credentials in Zoho Vault. Navigate to the login page of the website you wish to log in to, click the browser extension icon that appears in the login field, (a red Z) and select the account you want to sign in with, your credentials will be auto-filled. This helps you when you have two or more accounts saved for the same URL. For example, when you have two Amazon accounts saved for the Amazon website, you get to choose the account with which you want to log in.)

Alternatively, you can right-click on the login page of any website whose credentials have already been stored in Zoho Vault to view the Zoho Vault option. Click the icon to show the list of passwords related to that site, and click the appropriate options to either Fill, Login, Fill User Name, or Fill Password.

Copy username or password

You can copy your username or password to paste into an offline application or a website that doesn't allow auto-fill.

Edit secret

You can edit the secrets you own and the ones that are shared with you with the Managing or Modify permission. Click the Edit Secret option that appears at the end of every secret field, make the necessary changes, then click Save.

Update secrets with new password

Zoho Vault’s browser extension helps you to update the password on your secret if you’ve recently changed it. This can be done by logging in to the web account whose password has been changed recently. The browser extension then asks if you’d like to update the password stored in the secret. Click the Update pop-up to complete this action.

Share secret

You can share any secret with an individual user or a group. Click Share Secret, then choose either Share with Users or Share with User Groups.

Delete secret

You can delete any of your secrets by clicking More Actions, then selecting Delete.

Sync

Your Zoho Vault data is synchronized every time you log in to the browser extension. You can also sync the data manually at any time by clicking the Sync tab, which syncs the browser extension with all the changes made on the Vault.

Secret access request/release

You can configure an access control workflow from the browser extension for an additional layer of security. Once configured, users will be prompted to raise access requests and add comments in order to access secrets. The administrators can approve or deny user access requests. They can also configure the following parameters of the workflow:

  • List of admins who can approve password access requests

  • List of admins who can be excluded from the access control workflow

  • Whether password access requires multiple administrators' approval

  • Time-limited access

  • Duration in hours of time-limited access

Change password for websites

You can change the passwords of web accounts. The extension will generate a strong password based on the default password policy and change it automatically. The new password will be auto-saved in the extension. For more details, refer to this section of our help documentation.
