Customize Fields for Bugs

You can customize and group bugs based on default field values such as Severity, Module, Classification and Is it Reproducible types. You can also reorder and modify the default fields. In addition, you can create custom fields based on your choice to classify bugs.

Default Fields

  • Severity is the degree of bug impact. You can set a default severity value to be assigned to a bug when it is filed. You can also change and reorder the Severity field values.
  • Module is used to categorize bugs based on project. You can set a default module to be assigned to a bug when it is filed. You can also change and reorder the Module field values.
  • Classification is used to group bugs based on their category such as Security, Crash/Hang, Data loss and so on. You can set a default classification to be assigned to a bug when it is filed. You can also change and reorder the Classification field values.
  • Is it Reproducible is used to group bugs based on their relative frequency. You can set a default value to be assigned to a bug when it is filed. You can also change and reorder the Is it reproducible field values.

Edit default fields

You can edit default fields whenever required.

 In Projects, select the required project, and click Bugs. Choose Bug Settings from the displayed options and under Customization choose Fields. In Default Fields tab, click Edit Values to change the field value. Click on the grey icon of the value, that you wish to set as the default field value.

You can also, click Add Value, to add a value to the selected field.

Modify default field names

You can modify the default field names, if required. Hove the mouse over the field to enable the edit option. Click and edit the field.

Reorder default fields

You can reorder the default field names as desired. Click Reorder to reorder the field values.

Add custom fields

You can create custom fields to classify bugs to your specifications.

In Projects, select the required project, and click Bugs. Choose Bug Settings from the displayed options and under Customization choose Fields. In Custom Fields tab, click the Plus icon at the top right corner, to add a new custom field.

Specify the field details and select the required users.Indicate Type of Text Field and set the Default Value. If you select Pick List, you must add items to your picklist.

Note:

  • If you select Pick List, you must add items to your picklist.
  • If you select User Picklist, you can select the project users or choose Select All to add all the users in the project.
  • You can also add client users if you select Client Users in Permission. And based on this User Picklist feature, you can create new custom views and define business rules.

Note: Likewise, you can also set Numeric and Date properties for the custom fields.

Edit custom fields

In Projects, select the required project, and click Bugs. Choose Bug Settings from the displayed options and under Customization choose Fields. In Custom Fields tab, click Edit to modify the required field.

Show custom fields

You can view the configuration of the custom fields such as Description, Permission and so on.

In Projects, select the required project, and click Bugs. Choose Bug Settings from the displayed options and under Customization choose Fields. In Custom Fields tab, click Show to view the custom field configuration.

Reorder bug fields

You can hide, reorder and save the bug fields to customize the field order to suit your Projects.

In Projects, select the required project, and click Bugs. Choose Bug Settings from the displayed options and under Customization choose Fields. In Reorder Fields tab, drag and drop the fields based on your project need and then click Save to save the new field order.

Also, you can choose to hide fields that you do not want to get displayed while submitting bugs or in the List view or Detail view of the bugs. In Reorder Fields, hover the mouse over a selected bug field and deselect it to hide. The hidden fields are displayed in red.

You cannot hide the Assignee, Flag, Due Date and Status fields, but you can reorder them. The saved field order will be displayed in the bugs List view, Detail view and Submit Bug form.

Delete custom fields

In Projects, select the required project, and click Bugs. Choose Bug Settings from the displayed options and under Customization choose Fields. In Custom Fields tab, click Delete to delete the custom field.

Once deleted, all the data stored in this custom field cannot be retrieved. And the business rule(s) associated with this field will also be deactivated.
