5 years of Zoho Subscriptions: The road so far

The subscriptions industry has been booming recently. Subscription-based ecommerce businesses had a year-over-year growth of 100% for five years in a row, according to a 2018 McKinsey & Company survey. That upsurge started around the same time when Zoho Subscriptions was launched. Back then, in 2014, the goal was to provide small and medium-sized businesses with the tools they needed to take advantage of this industry boom.

At that time, no one could have predicted the pace at which companies would start to adopt the subscription model. From industry giants like Adobe and Amazon to startup unicorns like Blue Apron and Dollar Shave Club, the subscription model has proven to be a game-changer. This widespread adoption of the subscription model not only accelerated the need for a subscription billing platform, but also brought along a host of new requirements for such platforms.

Pay-as-you-go pricing structures, customizable and ready-to-deploy hosted payment pages, payment gateway integrations, advanced API support, and companion mobile apps: these are just some of the things that the industry needs in a subscription billing platform. Zoho Subscriptions has all of these—and goes much further with its features.

In the last 5 years, Zoho Subscriptions has helped thousands of businesses adopt the subscription model and excel with it. Here's what some of those customers have to say:

The road ahead

We launched Zoho Subscriptions with small and medium-sized businesses in mind. But we've seen that larger businesses need subscription solutions too. As a scalable subscription platform, we're ready for businesses of any size. In fact, we're already handling enterprise-level customers!

That being said, we know there's always room to keep improving. We've made 200+ feature updates and well over 500 usability improvements in the last 5 years, and we've been listening to your feature requests and considering them carefully. For now, some much-needed features like pausing and resuming subscriptions, and an inventory management integration for box businesses, are in the pipeline. We're looking forward to offering you more great features in the future.

Thank you again for choosing Zoho Subscriptions and supporting us so far. Here's to the next 5!

  1. Congratulations. 1. Prorating should be optional. 2. Multiple plans per subscription invoice, rather than having multiple subscriptions that consolidate to an invoice in Books. 3. Draft invoices for customer approval. 4. Link Contacts to Subscriptions by Account, so turning Contacts on or off can update Subscription billing. 5. Commissions, Commissions, Commissions. Thanks,

    1. Hello Joshua, Thank you for the suggestions. I've passed them on to our team and they're looking into them. Also, it would be great if you could write to us at support@zohosubscriptions.com and tell us a bit more about your second point--the one about multiple plans per subscription invoice--this will help us understand your request better.
