Zoho IoT Turns 1

A year ago, we flipped the switch on something new.

We were not just launching another Zoho product, we were stepping into the wide, unpredictable world of the Internet of Things. Unlike other major business Apps - which are used by small/medium businesses - IoT has to be ready for is for large scale Enterprise from day one. The goal was simple on paper: help businesses connect, control, and communicate with their devices / machines / assets. The reality? Thrilling late-night ideas, real-world challenges, and plenty of aha moments.

It started quietly, with a small team sketching possibilities on whiteboards. We debated everything: Should we build an end-to-end solution or a true platform? How do we stay flexible enough for a factory floor and a smart office? Those early choices, platform first, open and low-code from day one, became the DNA of Zoho IoT.  

The first few months were all about listening. We sat with manufacturers watching machines hum, with energy managers juggling spreadsheets, with logistics teams tracking fleets across continents. Every conversation shaped what came next. We built, we broke things, then we rebuilt faster and smarter.

Then from 2022, the sparks started igniting. Early adopters came on board and turned our ideas into reality: predictive maintenance in factories, and energy savings across sprawling campuses. Their feedback pushed us harder and kept us humble. We celebrated the wins, a factory cutting downtime by a third, a smart building trimming energy bills, and we learned from every misstep.

Inside Zoho, we lived the product ourselves. Our offices became our own test-bed, from optimizing energy use to piloting edge computing. Nothing teaches you like being your own customer.

And then came the surprises. AI went from “maybe later” to “must-have now,” so we dove in. We dint want to give into the AI buzz and launch a half-baked feature, we did our groundwork by carefully understanding about the practical difficulties in onboarding, customization, and scaling. Took time to understand the market of Artificial Internet of things (AIoT) and then started building and rolling out our AI features, this way we made sure we didn’t put out a product to ride on the wave, but build one with a solid foundation for a long game.

Today, as Zoho IoT turns one, we are less about milestones and more about momentum. The real story is not just what we built, it is the people who believed in it: our early customers, our partners, and the team that kept pushing boundaries with coffee-fueled grit and quiet determination.
