How do I retry failed recurring payments via Zoho Payments?

You can retry failed recurring payments depending on how you use Zoho Payments:

When used with Zoho Finance apps:

Zoho Payments supports automatic retries for failed recurring payments when used with Zoho Books, Zoho Billing, Zoho Invoice, or Zoho Checkout.

  • You can configure Retry Settings in your Zoho Finance app, and set up to three retry attempts.
  • If all retry attempts fail, the invoice or subscription will be marked as Payment Failed or Cancelled based on the settings you’ve configured. No further automatic attempts will be made.
  • Customers can still complete the payment manually through the customer portal.

When used as a standalone app:

Zoho Payments doesn’t retry failed recurring payments automatically but you can do them from your integrated system or ask your customers to retry them manually.

To identify failed payments, use the meta_data field in the API response. This field supports non-sensitive identifiers (such as order IDs and customer IDs) to help you map the failed transaction back to your system.
