What is a Qualified Electronic Signature, or QES?

  • QES is an advanced electronic signature based on a qualified digital certificate.
  • A qualified digital certificate can only be issued by a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP) with a Qualified Signature Creation Device (QSCD).
  • This process involves face-to-face identity verification of the signatory.
  • QES is the only signature type in the European Union that's deemed legally identical to wet signatures.
  • You can now use QES to sign your documents with Zoho Sign. We recommend you read the standard document shared by eIDAS to learn more.
