All through the year, we’ve been fortunate enough to interact with users like you who gave us specific, constructive feedback to help evolve Writer for the better. We couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you! ?
In the spirit of the holiday season, and as a token of gratitude for your support, we picked and implemented some of the most requested features on our Community right now. We hope you like these holiday treats!
1. Insert spreadsheets to documents
Use our powerful number-crunching tool for your annual reports and projects. Writer joins hands with Sheet to bring you the option to create spreadsheets within documents. Insert, edit, and format spreadsheets, or work with advanced formulas—just as you would normally do in Zoho Sheet—without leaving your current page.
With this update, you now have the option to display data in documents as a fully-featured spreadsheet as well as a simple embedded table.
2. Sort a table
Your traditional tables are getting updates, too! You can now easily sort data in a table alphabetically, numerically, or by date. This is especially helpful if your tables flow across multiple pages.
Additionally, you can tell Writer to keep the first row as a header, making it easier to read the table data, no matter how far down you scroll.
3. Easier access to writing preferences
Zia, your AI-powered writing assistant, has also been learning new tricks this year. We understand each writing style is unique, and want to take personal preferences into account while providing smart suggestions from Zia.
For this reason, we’ve now added a quick shortcut menu for writing preferences on the bottom panel. This new menu will be home to your writing reports and granular writing controls, including informal writing, word choices, spelling, grammar, and more.
4. Locate and organize symbols better
Looking for a particular symbol or emoji in Writer just got so much more easier. Search using a keyword, and Writer will help you find all the relevant options.
5. Add line numbering to code blocks
Ever since we introduced it, developers across the world have been using Code Snippets in Writer to document their code and share it with their team. Today, we’re making it even easier to present, discuss, and collaborate on your code. Code snippets in Writer can now display line numbers within the blocks.
That’s all for now. Is there a feature you’d like us to add to Writer? Let us know in the comments below.
Wishing you an incredible holiday season ahead! ❄

Brilliant addition to Writer features. As I had suggested on numerous occasions, I would love to have dynamic tables from Zoho Creator Subform (like we do with CRM). It would make document automation so much easier for bespoke applications on Creator.
I would love it if you guys made an app version/better offline version available for a desktop/laptop, because I use Writer all the time for all my documents and I love using it, but I forget to download my main docs offline across my different devices, and if I don't have Writer open on my browser when I go offline, I can't access them. It really frustrates me and it can interfere with my work flow. Otherwise, great program, love the design and the appearance, love writing with it.
Hello there, Samantha! We're excited to announce that Writer is now available on Windows, macOS and Linux as a downloadable app. It comes with everything you already know on the web version, and also an offline mode. Give it a try: https://www.zoho.com/writer/desktop-app.html Hope you like it. =]
Hello Samantha, Thank you so much for the detailed feedback. We're working on a new macOS/Windows/Linux app that comes with Offline standard. Can you drop us a mail at support@zohowriter.com so that we could give you early access? Thanks much again! Happy holidays! =]
