What is SeaTable?

SeaTable is a no-code platform that helps you manage data, create meaningful relationships, design custom databases, and set up workflows or data-based apps.

Key features of SeaTable

Data visualization

SeaTable lets you navigate between different views such as table, gallery, kanban, timeline, and calendar. These flexible visualization options help teams look at data from different perspectives and keep complex datasets organized.

Application builder

SeaTable allows you to create data-driven applications. Through its no-code/low-code builder, you can design interfaces, configure forms, and automate workflows directly on top of your data. This makes it possible to build internal tools and simple apps tailored to your team’s processes.

Dashboards

With SeaTable’s dashboard feature, you can visualize metrics using a range of charts, tables, and summary blocks. Dashboards update automatically as your data changes, providing real-time insights into performance, progress, or key metrics across your bases.

Drawbacks of SeaTable

Learning curve

SeaTable positions itself as a blend of a spreadsheet and a database. However, in practice, many users find it difficult to get started.

As someone who has used SeaTable, I think the steeper learning curve is one of the product's most challenging features. Although SeaTable contains many complex features that make it a formidable data management tool, understanding and efficiently utilizing all of these components can be time-consuming.

When working with huge amounts of data, the interface can occasionally be sluggish or jerky. Others have pointed out that although the customization possibilities are numerous, they may also be confusing and time-consuming to set up.

Mobile app

For teams that work on the go, especially those with field workers, a reliable mobile app is essential for capturing data and tracking processes in real time. SeaTable currently doesn't offer an iOS app, and the Android version functions more like a web wrapper with limited mobile-specific features. Teams that rely heavily on mobile access may find this restrictive and may need a more capable alternative.

AI assistant

SeaTable includes AI assistance for automations in its paid plans, but it doesn’t offer AI assistance to help users build complete solutions. Users still need to design manually and configure their workflows.

Limited trial experience

SeaTable’s free plan offers only a limited set of features. Key capabilities, such as view sharing and automation, aren't available in the trial version. Even basic email support is excluded, making it difficult for new users to fully experience the platform before upgrading to a paid plan.

Collaboration

SeaTable supports real-time collaboration but lacks some features that are essential for effective teamwork. It offers only two predefined access levels: read and write or read-only, which isn't sufficient for teams with multiple roles and responsibilities. Additionally, users can't reply to individual comments, making it harder to maintain focused discussions within records.

Pricing

SeaTable comes with both cloud and on-prem options, offering three pricing tiers starting at €7 per user per month. While the plans are designed to cater to different usage and storage needs, many small businesses and entrepreneurs find them expensive compared to similar tools.

On-Prem:

Another aspect of SeaTable that some consumers may dislike is its pricing plan. While SeaTable provides a variety of subscription-based plans to meet various financial and usage needs, some users may find the pricing to be more than expected, especially when compared to similar software solutions on the market.
