The company

Scores and more (operating as Dive Live), founded in 2021, is a US-based sports-technology company offering a comprehensive diving meet management platform. Dive Live streamlines and elevates the diving meet experience for athletes, coaches, parents, and event administrators. With its web and mobile presence, it's used by high schools, clubs, and collegiate programs across the US, helping make diving events more connected, transparent, and engaging.

The challenge

Ray Mannion, co-founder of Scores and more, wanted a solution to analyze and present competition results online in a straightforward, automated way without relying on programming or technical maintenance.

Since Scores and more supports a wide variety of events, they wanted a user-friendly platform to analyze and optimize athletes’ performances and evaluate judges’ scoring patterns to identify inconsistencies. Since these reports are requested by athletes, coaches, parents, and event administrators for different purposes, Mannion needed a platform with interactive reporting elements that didn't require custom coding.

Scores and more stored their data in Stripe, QuickBooks, and Google Cloud. Mannion needed a platform where he could bring data from all these sources and analyze it to get a 360-degree view of his business. He also needed a comprehensive view on the participation statistics.

Building a custom BI solution required both back-end and front-end developers, and it was expensive and cumbersome to manage internally. Building and maintaining a PHP application or database could also solve the issues, but Mannion preferred a solution that didn’t require programming to display results online.

Mannion decided to look for a BI solution that was already available in the market. After trying Looker Studio and BigQuery, he turned to a more cohesive solution.

The solution

After a thorough evaluation, Mannion decided that Zoho Analytics was the ideal choice due to its standout features, such as its intuitive interface and ease of use. Good documentation and help videos were a bonus.

Zoho Analytics' out-of-the-box integrations with Stripe, QuickBooks, and Google Cloud made bringing all their data under one umbrella seamless. Mannion blended and modeled data from all three sources to get a sense of how his business was doing. And Zoho Analytics also acts as a means of reconciliation and cross-checking their data.

After adopting Zoho Analytics, he was able to power up his analytics on external reporting, internal performance tracking, and college recruitment facilitation.

External reporting: AAU (Amateur Athletic Union)

AAU is one of the largest governing bodies that oversees diving competitions. They needed high-level yearly statistics on the number of competitions conducted, number of times divers competed, participation counts, regional breakdowns of these statistics, stats on top-performing divers, and more. After adopting Zoho Analytics, Mannion was able to deliver these reports on time and up to date.

Internal reporting:

Zoho Analytics let them track key organizational metrics such as number of registered users, number of teams, number of competitions conducted, number of videos uploaded and used in competitions, and the competition schedule and frequency. This helped them plan their business efforts.

College recruitment facilitation:

Reports from Zoho Analytics provided insights to coaches about high school divers seeking university opportunities and gave them summary details and contact information for prospective student-athletes. This encouraged coaches to stay active and continue using the platform.

One of Mannion's favorite features is sharing reports via scheduled email. Other reports are made publicly available by seamlessly embedding them on their website.

Email alert is another one of his favorite features. If the number of participants for any upcoming competitions exceed a set threshold, an email alerts the team to anticipate high traffic and upgrade the database server in advance. This ensures smooth performance and uninterrupted access during busy event days.
