# I migrated to the South Africa edition, but now I can’t add VAT to expenses. Why?

If you are not able to add taxes to your expenses or other transactions after migration, ensure you have met the following requirements:

1.  Enabling VAT. To do this:

*   Go to _Settings_ and click **VAT** under _Taxes & Compliance_.
*   In the _VAT Settings_ page, enable the toggle next to _Is your business registered for VAT?_
*   Enter the required details and click **Save.**

2.  The expense’s date must be the same as or later than the date entered in the **VAT Registered On** field on the _VAT Settings_ page.

If you’ve met all the above points, you will be able to include VAT in all your transcations without any hindrance.
