# What is opening balance adjustment?

In Zoho Books, opening balance adjustment is used when there is a difference between the credit and debit entries in the opening balance of your organization.

To offset the opening balance adjustment, check the debit and credit entries and ensure that the difference between them is zero.

**Pro Tip:** Ensure that you don’t create any transactions on the opening balance date as this may affect the opening balance.
