How do I authorise Zoho Books at HMRC?

Starting from November 1, 2022, all VAT registered businesses must use an MTD-compliant software to record and file their VAT returns. You can file your VAT returns directly to the HMRC portal using Zoho Books.

As a prerequisite, make sure you have selected the I want to file my VAT returns to HMRC through Zoho Books option in the VAT Filing Settings under the Taxes pane.

To authorise Zoho Books at HMRC:

  • Choose your role in filing VAT returns, whether you’re the admin of the organisation or an agent on behalf of an organisation.
  • In case you’re an agent filing VAT returns on behalf of an organisation, then you’ll have to request the admin to grant authority at the HMRC Website and enter your Agent Registration Number.
  • Acknowledge the terms and conditions.
  • Proceed by clicking Go to HMRC’s Website. You’ll be redirected to the HMRC’s website to complete your authorisation process.
  • Click Continue to grant permission to Zoho Books.
  • Sign In using your HMRC credentials.
  • In the ensuing screen, click Grant Authority.

This marks the completion of authorisation of Zoho Books at the HMRC portal. Now, you will be redirected to your Zoho Books organisation where you can file your VAT Returns.
