Why Migrate OKRs from Viva Goals now?

Microsoft Viva Goals is officially retiring on December 31, 2025. This is your last chance to migrate to an alternative OKR software and prevent disruption to your operations. The platform has already been on a "feature freeze" for more than a year and won't be accessible beyond the retirement date. Acting now gives your teams sufficient time to export data, zero in on one of the alternative OKR software platforms to Microsoft Viva Goals and realign OKR workflows before it impacts daily work processes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Microsoft supports 3 types of export formats. You can click on the links to know the steps for each: API, Excel and PowerPoint

The recommended approach is to export all OKR data from Viva Goals on priority before the retirement date, evaluate suitable alternatives, and migrate objectives into the new platform. Teams should allow time for onboarding, validation, and realignment of workflows to avoid operational disruption.

Goal data, objectives, and related progress can be extracted for migration to another OKR tool before retirement.

Migration can be handled using Viva Goals’ native export options namely API, Excel and PowerPoint combined with the import tools offered by the new OKR platform. It is recommended to use an Excel export as almost every other OKR platform will support it for import.

To maintain accuracy, export your data early and perform validation checks before and after import. Review key fields like objective names, key results, owners, dates, and progress. Conduct spot checks in the new platform after importing to confirm completeness before full cut-over.
