Chart Legend Positioning Customization:

Previously, a chart's legend was always positioned to the right and there was no way to change it. We now support 4 different positions to place the legend - Right, Left, Top, Bottom. Choose your favorite position based on the best chart-legend view.

For choosing the legend's position, click on Settings and choose the Legend tab. You can choose the legend's position in the dropdown there.

Embedded Charts Performance:

Charts embedded in a page now load much faster than before. We have done some performance tuning on both server and client sides, which makes the embedded charts to load faster.

Pie Chart Call-out Enhancement:

In pie charts, when a column's dropped into the Text field, relevant call-out messages appear. The appearance of these dialogs have been significantly enhanced.

Export as HTML:

Till now Zoho Reports supported Exporting your data (contained in Tables) and reports created as CSV, PDF and Image (for charts alone). With this update you can also export your data and reports in a HTML file format. You can do this by invoking the "Export -> Export as HTML" in the toolbar of the corresponding data table or report which you wanted to Export.

Incase of Charts the HTML file along with the chart image embedded will be pacakaged inside a Zip file and downloaded, if you use "Export as HTML" option

Chart Legend Settings:

We have provided the option to set the title of the Legend in a Chart. You can set this under the "Legend" settings tab, when you invoke the "Settings" dialog of a chart. If you leave the title empty, then no title will appear.

The Legend settings also offers a option to show or hide quick filters (check boxes on the legend) that you see in a legend. You can show or hide the legend filters using this option.

Support for IE8 Browser:

With this update Zoho Reports is now supported in Internet Explorer Version 8.

June 15, 2009

Quarter and Week support in Reports:

We now support Quarter and Week functions when you create any type of report (charts, pivots, summary). This is a very useful date function especially when you analyze time series data (eg., sales, marketing campaigns, web analytics etc.,).

You could also filter the data in these reports based on these time range functions. Checkout the blog post "Analyzing Data Using New Quarterly & Weekly Options" for more details.

Fine-grained Permissions while Sharing Reports:

Till now when a report or table was shared to a user you could provide only Read or Read/Write permission to the shared user. With this new update Zoho Reports has enabled more fine-grained permissions that could be granted to the shared user. The following permissions could now be granted apart from the Read and Read/Write:

  • Export Data - This will allow the shared user to export the data or report in different file formats like CSV, PDF and Image.
  • View Underlying Data - This will allow the shared user to view the underlying data of a specific data point or the overall data points of a report. This is applicable only when you share a Chart, Pivot and Summary report type.
  • Add Row - Allows a shared user to add rows of data in a table that is shared to him
  • Modify Row - Allows a shared user to modify the existing rows in a table that is shared to him
  • Delete Row - Allows a shared user to delete existing rows of data in a table that is shared to him
  • Delete All - Enables the "Delete All" rows option to the shared user for the table that is shared to him
  • Only Append Rows - Enables a shared user to append new records into a table that is shared to him by importing the same from a file (CSV, XLS, HTML)
  • Add or Update Rows - Enables a shared user to add new record or update existing records by importing data from a file
  • Delete All Rows and Add New Rows - Enables a shared user to Delete all the existing records in a shared table and add the records as new rows when data is imported from a file

Along with this feature, you also now have the option to choose and send invitation mails or not while sharing a report to the user.

Checkout the blog post for more details on 'Fine-grained Sharing Permissions' feature.

Query Table Over Query Table:

The latest Zoho Reports update brings in the 'Query over Query' functionality, which has been one of the top request from our users. You can now have SELECT queries that combine already existing Query Tables. With this new "Query over Query" feature, you can create very powerful reporting queries on your data and use it for your report generation and analytics. It also helps in organizing your queries into reusable functional units.

Checkout the blog post for more details on 'Query Table Over Query Table' feature.

Dynamic Filtering capabilities in Charts:

With this update we have introduced a powerful filtering capabilities in charts in Live mode. You can now include or exclude value(s) in the chart by checking or unchecking the corresponding values on the legend provided. This filtering further enables you to do powerful analysis even in a live chart.

Checkout the blog post on Dynamic Filtering in charts.

New Look & Feel for Pie and Bar chart:

We have enhanced the look & feel of the 2D Pie and Bar chart to make it look more modern with more pleasant gradient effects. Also percentage support has been added into Pie chart by default. Percentage will now be displayed over corresponding pie.

Support for Web URL Datatype:

Zoho Reports now supports Web URL (HyperLink) data type. Users can now store data which are fully-formed and accessible URLs or Hyper links. When data is stored in this type, Zoho Report also provides an option to click on the URL and directly access the contents in a New Browser Window.

Excel (.XLS) Import:

So far Zoho Reports did not support directly importing an .XLS (Excel) file. You had to copy & paste the contents in Step 1 of the Import Wizard to import the data in a .XLS file. Now with this update you can directly import data in a .XLS file by loading the file (either from the local machine or from a Web URL) directly rather than copy & pasting the contents.

Expanding Zipped file support for HTML and .XLS:

If you contain huge data files of more than 3MB in size, Zoho Reports does not allow you to import the file. To handle these cases, for huge CSV files we support Zipping the file uploading the same into Zoho Reports. We did not support Zipping HTML or .XLS files so far. With this update, you could also Zip your huge HTML or .XLS file and upload the same into Zoho Reports.

Note:

  • The Zipped file should be less than 3MB in size and should not contain more than 100K rows.

Quickly Generate Similar Reports in Zoho Reports:

There are instances when you want to generate the same type of reports repeatedly on some periodic data. Say for example sales report for each month or quarter, or quality analysis reports on test output generated periodically etc. In these scenarios you would have created variety of reports based on your needs. And to create such reports repeatedly for each new similar dataset can be a pain. Not anymore. Zoho Reports has come up with a new feature, "Autogenerate Reports - Similar to Another Table", which you can use for easy report duplication.

Checkout the blog post Quickly Generate Similar Reports in Zoho Reports for more details.

Automated Analytics in Zoho Reports:

Zoho Reports has introduced a new and very easy way of report generation with its Automated Analytics feature. With Automated Analytics, Zoho Reports applies an advanced rules engine to scan your data and based on pre-defined rules, generates reports automatically, which could be customized later. Auto-generation of reports drastically reduces the time spent by you on manual report generation and analysis.

Checkout the blog post on Automated Analytics for more details.

Support for Multi-Column, Multi-data and Sorting in Pivot table:

We have enhanced the "Pivot Table" report type with more analytical features and power. The following features have been added to Pivot table in this update:

  • Support for adding multiple columns in the "Columns" field in Pivot. Till now you could have only one column.
  • Support for adding more than one data columns. With this, you could have multiple data columns summarized in the Pivot grid. Very useful for comparative analysis.
  • Support for powerful sorting at any column level
  • You could now view the underlying data of any data-point in the pivot (similar to Charts). Clicking the link that appears on mouse-over the data-point will show up the underlying data.

With these features, Pivot tables provides you more power and flexibility. Also checkout the Zoho Reports blog explaining these features.
