# Creating a New Credit Note

If the Credit Notes module is not available by default in the left sidebar, you’ll have to enable it in the _Preferences_. To do this:

*   Go to **Settings** from the top-right corner of the page.
*   Select **General Preferences**.
*   Mark _Credit Notes_ under _Select the modules you would like to enable_.
*   Click **Save** at the bottom of the page.

You can create a credit note from three different places within Zoho Invoice.

### From the Credit Notes module

*   Go to **Credit Notes** on the left sidebar or press **shift + n** to open the _Credit Notes_ module.
*   Click **\+ New** or press **c + n** to create a new credit note.
*   Enter the details of the credit note in the creation form.
*   Click **Save as Draft** to save the credit note as a draft.
*   You can also mark the Credit Note as **Open** by clicking **Save as Open**.

### From the Invoice module

You can also create a credit note directly from an invoice in the name of the customer you want to issue those credits for. 

*   Go to **Invoices** on the left sidebar.
*   Select the invoice of the customer for whom you want to issue credits.
*   Click the **More** icon and select **Create Credit Note**.

### From the Customers module

Credit notes can also be created by selecting a customer from the **Customers** module.

*   Go to **Customers** on the left sidebar.
*   Click the **New transaction** dropdown.
*   Select **Credit Note** and proceed to create the credit note.
