Getting Started Guide

Custom Domain Mapping

If you have purchased a domain for your business and you run the company's portal on Zoho Projects, this domain mapping feature will come in handy. All the users in your company will be able to access the portal from your domain name itself. So, your company portal will be hence read as https://www.yourcompanyname.com/portal/xyz or https://test.yourcompanyname.com/portal/xyz instead of the default https://projects.zoho.com/portal/xyz format.

Pre-requisite

Ensure that you set the CNAME entry before you map your new domain to the Zoho Projects portal.

  1. Log in to your domain provider's admin console.
  2. Go to the DNS settings / Manage DNS section.
  3. If you aren't using the domain that you have purchased as the custom domain (www.yourcompanyname.com), then create a subdomain as per your business requirement.
  4. Create a record of type CNAME, enter a host alias (i.e www / subdomain) and point it to projects.cs.zohohost.com. If you are managing your project portal from projects.zoho.eu, map the CNAME entry to projects.cs.zohohost.eu.
  5. Save the changes.

SSL certificate is mandatory since custom domains work via the HTTPS protocol. If you would like to use custom domain in Projects, write to support@zohoprojects.com for setting up SSL certificate.

A real-time example

You are a company that teaches foreign languages to students who aspire to do their Masters in foreign countries. You are known as 'Maestro Language Hub' and you use Zoho Projects to run your business.

  • Say, your actual project URL is https://projects.zoho.com/portal/projectadmin#myfeed
  • With custom domain mapping, your new domain URL will be read as https://www.maestrolanguagehub.com/portal/projectadmin#myfeed or https://projects.maestrolanguagehub.com/portal/projectadmin#myfeed as per your business requirement.

If you wish to change the domain name again from maestrolanguagehub.com to linguafranca.com, follow these simple steps.

  1. Reset the CNAME entry to the new custom domain name.
  2. Navigate to Projects->Portal Configuration-> Org Settings in your custom domain portal.
  3. Follow the instructions in the Edit Domain Name section.
