Getting Started Guide

Baseline

Baseline captures the schedule deviation from the original plan. It helps to assess the actual results of the project and track the progress.

Find out how baseline can help you to analyze the progress of your project

  Baseline

Benefits of baseline

  • Identify the activities that are delayed.
  • Evaluate project performance based on a set benchmark.
  • Plan upcoming work items based on the current baseline.
  • Find and resolve bottlenecks in the project.

Feature availability and access privileges

  • Feature Availability: Enterprise plan.
  • Access privilege: Users with Edit - All permission for task can view, create, and edit a baseline. Only Portal Owners and Admins can create baselines.

How do I...

Set a baseline

You can set a baseline with the help Milestone Gantt chart.

  1. Navigate to a project and then select Gantt & Reports > Milestone Gantt.
  2. Click   in the upper right corner.
  3. Click Set Baseline.
  4. Enter the baseline name and click Set Baseline.

Note:

  • A baseline is created with a set of open tasks available in the project.
  • Tasks without start or end dates are not included in the baseline.
  • A project can have a maximum of 5 baselines.
  • Client users cannot create baselines.

Compare baseline

Baseline comparison gives an insight on the open tasks and the total time spent on them. Create baselines to compare and analyze project changes over a given time period.

  1. Navigate to a project and then select Gantt & Reports > Milestone Gantt.
  2. Click   in the upper right corner.
  3. Select a baseline to compare it with the current open tasks in the project. You can deselect it anytime to discard the comparison.
    • Gray and green bars represent the baseline and current tasks respectively. Blue bars are the subtasks.

Example
Because of the delay in Basement Tiles task, the other dependent tasks are also delayed.  Without baseline, it will be tough to spot the bottlenecks. Also, based on your business you can create multiple baselines and compare it with the current schedule to identify the project delay.

Slippage

Slippage tracks the tasks that haven't started yet. It is the difference between the baseline start date and the current start date of the task. Baseline start date is the original start date of the task.

  1. Navigate to a project and then select Gantt & Reports > Milestone Gantt.
  2. Click   in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Slippage to calculate the slippage of a baseline.
    • Slippage is the dark gray line from the baseline start date to the current start date.

End variance

End variance tracks the delay in the completion of tasks. It is the difference between the baseline finish date and the current end date of the task. Baseline finish date is the initial estimated task completion date.

Edit or delete a baseline

  1. Navigate to a project and then select Gantt & Reports > Milestone Gantt.
  2. Click   in the upper right corner.
  3. Hover over the baseline and click  .
  4. Enter a new baseline name.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Hover over the baseline and click  to delete a baseline.
    • Deleting a baseline removes it for all users.

You can save baseline reports or convert them as a PDF file for easy access.
