Domain WHOIS

When you register a new domain, the details of your registration like the address, telephone numbers, and email address will be linked to your domain and will be stored in the WHOIS directory as per the IETF standards.

There are a number of tools available online, which can provide the WHOIS information linked with the domain, upon request with the domain name. Personal details like your email address, phone number, and so on can also be acquired easily using your domain name. Hence to protect such confidential information from spammers or telemarketers, it is better to opt for a Private Registration option as explained below.

Private Registration

You can choose 'Private Registration' option, to make your personal data private. Choosing 'Private Registration' will make sure that a 'WhoIs' query does not reveal your personal information for public view, using your domain name.

Steps to choose Private Registration:

  1. Log in to the Zoho Mail Control Panel.
  2. Go to the Domains section.
  3. Select the domain registered with Zoho.
  4. In the Domain Details section, select 'Enable' for the Private Registration.

You will be charged an additional $5 as private registration charges on the card whose details you have provided. In case you have disabled auto-renewal, you will have to provide the card details again during private registration.

Domain Renewal:

Automatic Renewal:

When you register a new domain with Zoho, you need not worry about the hassles of renewal. The domain is set for auto renewal and will be renewed each year with the same card details you provide during the registration.

You may modify the card details, in case you want to renew the domain with a different card, before the renewal. Click on the domain name to view the Domain manager page with renewal and modify card links.

You can enable or disable the Auto-renewal of the domain from the Domain Details page. The domains subscription details are available on the domain details page.

You can update the card details using the Update Card Details link in the Domain Manager page.

Manual Renewal:

In case you have opted for manual renewal, you will receive an email reminder for domain renewal. You have to login to the Zoho Mail Control Panel to renew your domain.

  1. Login to  the Zoho Mail Control Panel.
  2. Go to the Domains page
  3. You will see a Renew link across the domains you have registered with Zoho along with the domain expiry details.
  4. Click the Renew link, provide the card details.
  5. Your domain will be renewed once the transaction is completed.

Stop email notifications:

When you have registered your domain in Zoho, you will receive different email notifications about the details of renewal and the corresponding alerts. In case you do not wish to receive email notification for manual renewal, you can turn off email notifications. Once you turn off the email notifications, you will not receive any reminders or alerts about the domain renewal or expiry.

RazorPay - Payment gateway for India

RazorPay is one of the safest payment gateways for India which facilitates Internet payments via Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, UPI or eWallets. Razorpay provides other modes of payment if there is no Credit Card payment option. However, in RazorPay mode of payment, we do not support automatic renewal or registration of domain for more than one year. When the domain is purchased in this payment mode, the domain should be manually renewed after one year.

Godaddy Domain Transfer - Authorization code

You may transfer the domain to another domain hosting provider, by getting an authorization code. Once you transfer the domain, the DNS records, renewal, and Name servers will be managed by the new Domain hosting provider.

  8. You can contact the new hosting provider with the authorization code for moving your domain.

  • You need to unlock your domain, at the time of 'actual' movement of the domain from Zoho. The domain will get automatically locked again within 30 minutes from the time you unlock it.
  • The domain should be in 'unlocked' state when you provide the authorization code to your new provider for changing the hosting setup.

Domain Deletion

When you purchase the domain from Zoho, you can delete the domain when you no longer need it, once you turn off the auto-renewal for the domain.

Important pointers before domain deletion:

Once the domain is deleted, the domain cannot be used anymore until the expiry and release of the domain.

The domain will be released and will be available for registration (from any provider) only after 50 days from the date of expiry of the domain.

The DNS credentials, the URL to be used for login will be emailed to the Super Admin of the organization also, to the admin who deleted it.

In case you need the domain to be removed from Zoho alone and want to use it somewhere else, you can transfer the domain before deletion.
