When I tried to lock transactions, I received an error stating that the transaction locking failed because pending inventory valuations are in progress, and to try again after some time. How do I resolve this?

When you record a transaction involving an inventory-tracking enabled item, Zoho Books automatically runs inventory valuation in the background to calculate its Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and posts the required journal entries across all related transactions.

If you try to lock the transaction while this valuation is still running, you’ll see an error stating that transaction locking failed because pending inventory valuations are in progress. This happens because locking the transaction before the valuation is completed can affect the accuracy of your stock calculations.

To avoid this, make sure the Inventory Valuation is completed before locking any transaction. To check the valuation status:

  • Go to Reports on the left sidebar.
  • Navigate to Inventory under Report Category.
  • Select the Inventory Valuation Summary report.

If the valuation is still running, you’ll see a banner at the top of the report that says, “Hang on! We’re updating your transactions and this might take a while. Please check after some time.” This indicates that the valuation journals are still being posted, and you need to wait until the process is fully completed before locking the transaction.
