Work Center
Work Center represents a physical location where a specific manufacturing operation is performed. Each Work Center is linked to a Work Center Type, which determines the relevant cost template used during production. It lets you specify the setup time, cleanup time, and capacity for components at the work center.
- Setup Time – The time it takes to prepare the work center before starting production for a component. For example, changing tools, calibrating machines, or arranging materials.
- Cleanup Time – The time needed to clean or reset the work center after completing a component. This ensures it’s ready for the next task.
- Capacity – Determines how many units of the item can be produced in a single execution.
Scenario: Bailey Miles works at a manufacturing unit and manages a work center that produces custom mugs. According to the BOM, she needs to produce 16 mugs. The work center’s capacity for mugs is 8, which means only 8 mugs can be produced in a single execution. The operation defined in the BOM for each mug takes 20 minutes to process the components. Therefore, including 5 minutes for setup and 5 minutes for cleanup, the first execution allows Patricia to produce 8 mugs in a total of 30 minutes(5 minutes setup + 20 minutes operation + 5 minutes cleanup). She then runs a second execution to produce the remaining 8 mugs, which also takes 30 minutes. Therefore, producing all 16 mugs in the work center takes a total of 1 hour.
