Payment Methods – Overview
Payment Methods in Retail Store define how payments are collected at the billing counter and where the collected amount is recorded in accounting.
Every sale completed in Retail Store must use one or more configured payment methods. These methods ensure accurate tracking of cash, digital payments, and bank deposits.
What is a Payment Method?
A payment method represents a mode of payment available during checkout, such as Cash, Card, UPI, or QR-based payments.
Each payment method determines:
- How the payment is processed at checkout
- Whether the payment affects session cash balance
- Which account the amount is deposited into
This ensures all retail transactions are traceable from billing to accounting.
Why Payment Methods Are Important
Payment methods help you:
- Control which payment options are available at registers
- Track cash and non-cash collections separately
- Ensure payments are posted to the correct accounts
- Simplify session reconciliation
- Maintain accurate financial records
Insight: Cash payment methods affect session cash reconciliation, while non-cash methods do not.
Types of Payment Processing
Retail Store supports multiple payment processing types:
Manual
Used when payments are collected offline and recorded by the cashier.
Common examples:
- Cash
- External card machines
- Offline wallets
Integrated Terminal
Used when payments are collected through a connected payment terminal.
The POS sends the amount to the terminal and receives confirmation automatically.
Dynamic QR Code
Used for QR-based instant payments.
A unique QR code is generated for each transaction amount and displayed during checkout.
Where Payment Methods Are Used
Payment methods are used across Retail Store operations:
- Sales: Selected during checkout to complete a sale
- Sessions: Cash methods contribute to expected cash
- Cash Management: Helps differentiate cash vs non-cash movement
- Accounting: Determines where funds are deposited
Relationship with Registers
Payment methods must be assigned to registers to be available during billing.
Note: Only payment methods assigned to a register appear on the checkout screen.
