# Can my customer pay for an invoice without logging in to the portal?

Your customer can pay an invoice without logging into the customer portal. You can share the payment URL with your customer, allowing them to make the payment.

**Prerequisite:**

*   You cannot generate payment URLs for invoices that are in the **Draft** status.
*   Your customers can make an online payment for an invoice only if you have associated a payment gateway with that invoice. Read our help document on [how online payment works in invoices](/books/help/invoice/record-payment-for-invoice.html#how-online) to know more.

Here’s how you can generate the payment URL for an invoice:

*   Go to _Sales_ on the left sidebar and select **Invoices**.
*   Select the invoice for which you want to share the payment URL.
*   Click **Share** at the top of the invoice’s _Details_ page.
*   Choose the date up to which the URL should be valid in the _Link Expiration Date_ field.
*   Set the _Visibility_ to **Public**.
*   Click **Generate Link**.
*   The URL generated will be available in the field below the _Link Expiration Date_ field. Click **Copy Link** to copy the URL generated.

You can share this URL with your customer via email or SMS. Once they click the URL, your customers will be redirected to the portal, where they can pay for the invoice without needing to log in.
