# How do I create an item?

To create an item:

*   Go to the **Items** module on the left sidebar.
*   Click **\+ New** in the top right corner of the page.
*   In the next page, enter details such as **Name, Type, Sales Information,** and **Purchase Information** of the item.
*   If you have [enabled inventory tracking for your organisation](/books/kb/items/track-inventory.html), check the **Track Inventory for this Item** box.
*   Select an **Inventory Account**.
*   Fill in other details such as **Opening Stock** and **Opening Stock Rate per Unit**.
*   Click **Save**.

Once you’ve enabled [inventory tracking](/books/help/items/) for an item, with every associated Sales/Purchase transaction, the stock quantity is auto-adjusted.

**Note:** You cannot disable inventory tracking for an item once you have added the item to a transaction.
