# Why do I select a display name for my customers and vendors?

Display name helps you identify the customer or vendor. If you have multiple customers or vendors with the same name, you can change the display name based on their company or first name. Here’s how you can set the display name:

*   Go to the **Sales** module and click **Customers** or go to the **Purchases** module and click **Vendors**.
*   Click **\+ New** to create a new customer/vendor or edit an existing customer/vendor.
*   Enter the customer/vendors name and other required details.
*   Select the appropriate display name from the display name dropdown.
*   Click **Save**.
