# Can I record a check payment without associating it to a bill in Zoho Books?

Yes, it is possible to record a check without having to associate it to a bill that has been created in Zoho Books. Here’s how:

*   Click **Purchases** in the left sidebar and select **Vendors** from the dropdown.
*   Next, select a vendor from the list view and click **New Transaction** in the top right corner.
*   Select **Pay Bill via Check** option.

**Note:** The checks that are not associated to the bills in Zoho Books will be considered as an advance payment.
