Hostnames in Zoho Domains

Hostnames are created when you want to host your own nameserver on your domain. A hostname is always mapped to one or more IP addresses (IPv4 or IPv6). This mapping allows the internet to locate the physical server responsible for responding to DNS queries for that hostname.

Manage hostnames

To add hostnames for your domain:

  1. Log in to the Zoho Domains account.
  2. Navigate to the My Domains section from the top pane.
  3. Click Manage next to the required domain.
  4. Select Manage DNS on the domain management page.
  5. Click Hostnames from the top pane.
  6. Click the Add hostname button.
  7. Enter the hostname. This is usually a subdomain name.
  8. Enter a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address that the hostname should map to in the IP Address field. You can add multiple IP addresses by clicking Add IP Address.
  9. You can add additional hostnames by clicking Add Hostname.
  10. Save the changes by clicking Save.

Once added, the configured hostnames will be available for use as custom nameservers.  If needed, click Edit Hostnames to edit or delete an existing hostname.

Note

  • Hostnames are required only if you are setting up custom nameservers.
  • If you are using Zoho’s nameservers or a third-party DNS provider, you generally do not need to configure hostnames.
  • Ensure that the IP addresses entered are valid and that the nameserver software is properly configured on the target server.
