Domain Renewal & Expiration

Managing your domain lifecycle, from registration to renewal and expiration, is critical to maintaining uninterrupted access to your website, email, and other domain-based services. Zoho Domains provides flexible renewal options, automated renewal options to help you avoid accidental domain expiration and service disruption.

Domain renewal

Domains registered through Zoho Domains must be renewed periodically based on the registration term selected during purchase (for example, 1 year, 2 years, or more). If a domain is not renewed before its expiration date, it may stop functioning and eventually become available for public registration.

Renew a domain manually

You can renew your domain before it expires by following these steps.

  1. Log in to your Zoho Domains account.
  2. Find the domains that are about to expire. The Renew button will be available next to expiring domains.
  3. Alternatively, click Manage next to the expiring domain. You'll find the Renew option beneath the domain's expiration date.

    Note

    The Renew button only appears 45 days before the domain's expiration date.

  4. Click Renew. The domain will be added to your cart for renewal.
  5. Modify the number of years you want to renew the domain for.
  6. if needed, you can enable Auto-Renew My Domain during checkout to avoid manual renewals in the future.
  7. After selecting your desired renewal period, click Checkout to complete the payment and renew your domain.

Once the payment is processed successfully, the domain’s expiration date is extended, and the renewal is completed.

Enable Auto-renewal

Auto-renewal ensures that your domain is renewed automatically at the end of each billing cycle, helping prevent accidental expiration due to missed reminders or delayed payments.

Steps to Enable Auto-Renewal

  1. Log in to your Zoho Domains account.
  2. Navigate to My Domains and click Manage next to the required domain.
  3. You will be redirected to the domain management page.
  4. Locate the Auto Renewal section.
  5. Click Enable.
  6. If prompted, add or confirm the required billing details.
  7. Save the changes.

Once enabled, Zoho Domains will automatically attempt to renew the domain before it expires.

Domain expiration

Each domain has a fixed expiration date based on its registration period. The renewal process is subject to change upon whether the domain is set for auto-renewal or requires manual renewal.

  • If Auto-Renewal is enabled, we will attempt to collect payment one month before the domain's expiration date. We will send emails to inform you of the payment collection date.
  • If Manual Renewal is selected, we will send reminder notifications to inform you of the domains approaching their expiration dates.

Renewal options

When there are 45 days remaining until the domain’s expiration, a renew button will appear next to the domain in your account's domain listing. This option allows you to renew the domain at your convenience. 

Grace period

  • Duration: After a domain expires, it enters a 30-day grace period.
  • Service Interruption: During this time, any website and email services associated with the domain will no longer function. However, you may still renew the domain without incurring any additional fees.
  • Restoration of Services: Once renewed within the grace period, all DNS configurations will be reinstated, and the domain will resume its normal functionality.

Redemption period

  • Duration: If the domain remain unrenewed beyond the grace period, it will enter a 30-day redemption period.
  • Additional Fees: Renewing a domain during the redemption period will incur an extra fee, which varies based on the domain’s Top-Level Domain (TLD).

Pending deletion

  • If the domain is not renewed during the redemption period, it will be deleted from the registrar’s database and placed in a Pending Delete status for a period of 5 days.
  • Post-Pending Delete: After the 5-day pending deletion period, the domain will be released for public registration and will become available for any user to register
