# How do I add a new tax rate?

To add a new tax rate:

*   Go to Settings > Taxes and click **+New Tax** in the top right corner of the page.
*   Enter Tax Name and Rate (%) for your tax.
*   Check the **This tax is a compound tax** option to define it as a compound tax, if necessary.
*   Click **Save.**

Now, the tax rate that you’ve created can be used when you create items or transactions.
