Publishing applications to market place

What is Zoho Creator Market Place

  • Zoho Creator market place provides the largest repository of business applications for your day-to-day business needs. Application category varies from:- It Management, Sales, Marketing, Human Resources, Education, Non-Profits.
  • If you did not find the apps you are looking for, you can post your project requirements and receive solution bids and responses from experts registered in the Zoho Creator Developer Community.
  • You can post your apps for free or charge a fee. You can set your own price for your application development, customization and support activities.
  • Zoho does not charge for the development activities or for the business you make out of Zoho Creator applications.
  • Zoho collects license fees from the "User Packs" which your customers will be buying. (User Packs are the number of users who access the applications.)

Steps to publish apps to Market Place

1. Select the Market Place icon displayed on the top-right corner of your Zoho Creator home page and select Developer Zone from the drop-down list. 

2. All applications created in your account will be listed under the head "Contribute your apps to Marketplace". 

3. Select the to Marketplace button to publish your application in the Zoho market place. Selecting this option will display a form wherein you will need   to specify the following information:

  • Description: Specify a brief description about the application.
  • Category: Select the category under which the application needs to be published.
  • Tags:Search keywords relevant to your application to enable search engine indexing.
  • Thumbnail Image: Upload a thumbnail image of the application.
  • Publish with data: Choose Yes to publish the application with its default configuration and data. Choose No to publish only the skeleton of the application.
  • Publish with source: Choose Yes to enable the user to access the application Edit mode (forms, views and script configurations) along with the Live mode. Choose No to permit the user to access only the Live mode.
  • License: Free License will grant the user permission to use and customize the app for free. For paid license, the user has to get permission from you to use the app.
  • Screen shots: Screen shots of your application forms and reports.

4. Click on Publish Application to publish the application to the marketplace. The application will be listed in the Market Place under the specified category.

Installing an application listed in the Market Place

  1. To install an application listed in the market place, select the Install this Application button displayed for each application.
  2. If the application is a Free version, it will be installed to your account and listed in your Home page.
  3. If the application is a Paid version, the information about the price is displayed, as shown in the screen-shot below. If you agree to pay the price, click on Request the Developer button, to send a request to the developer. The developer would approve the request in his/her discretion and payment terms would be explained in his response to your request.

Steps to Publish apps to Clients

Publishing application to your client will create production version of the application in their workspace. The development version will be retained in your workspace. You can do further development in the development version and merge the changes to the production version running in your clients workspace. To publish your application to clients,

  1. Select the Developer Zone tab displayed in the Zoho Creator Home page.
  2. All applications created in your account will be listed under the head "Contribute your apps to Marketplace". 
  3. Select the to Clients button to publish your application to your clients account. Selecting this option will display a form wherein you will need to specify the following information:
    • Select Client: The email-id of your clients will be listed here. Select the required client email-id from the list.
    • Description: Specify a brief description about the application.
    • Thumbnail Image: Upload a thumbnail image of the application.
    • Publish with data: Choose Yes to publish the application with its default configuration and data. Choose No to publish only the skeleton of the application.
    • Publish with source: Choose Yes to enable the user to access the application Edit mode (forms, views and script configurations) along with the Live mode. Choose No to permit the user to access only the Live mode.

  4. Click on Publish Application to publish the application to the clients account.

Republish apps to Clients

The applications listed in My applications published to Clients in Developer Zone contains the development version of the published applications. Any updates to be made to the published version, will have to be done using the Edit button and then republished to clients using theRepublish button. Clients who have already installed the app ( for both free or paid version), would be able to install the new version and also copy existing data to the new version using the Update Available button that will be displayed for this app listed under "My Installedapplications".

Update an application installed From Market place

When an update is made to an application published in the marketplace, customers who have installed the app ( for both free or paid version), would be able to install the new version and also copy existing data to the new version.

To install the updated version,

1. Click on the Update Available button that will be displayed for an application listed under Developer Zone -> My Installed Applications, for which an update is available. In the screen-shot given below, an update is available for the CRM" application published in the Market place. The customer who has installed this app, can choose to update his copy by selecting the "Update Available" button. On each update, a new version of the "CRM" application will be created in the customers account with a new version number. For example, CRM 1.0, CRM 2.0 etc.

Note:

  • The new version will be installed with or without data/default configurations, based on the options chosen by the app owner, while republishing the app

2. To view the updated versions, click on the required applications. For example, click on "CRM" to view all the installed versions of the CRM application, as shown below. The Copy Data option will be displayed for the new version. Click on the Copy Data option to copy data from the older version of your installed application to this new version. The "Copy Data" option will not delete your older versions or its data.

Note:

  • If more than one older version is available, the data will be copied from the version for which the Copy Data option was last processed.

3. The Copying Data screen will be displayed, when the data is being copied to the new version, as shown in the screen-shot below.

4. When the data is successfully copied to the new version, the message "Data successfully copied from <application name>" will be displayed, as shown below. You can choose to access the application or go back to the developer zone.
