How do Assemblies work?

Assemblies is the process of combining component items to produce one finished composite item. When you build an assembly, the component stock is consumed and the stock of the finished item increases. Assemblies are used when you physically build or assemble a finished product from separate component parts. For example, if you sell a computer, you can create an assembly for the computer that includes the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CPU as components. When you assemble the computer, the stock of each component is reduced and the stock of the finished computer is increased.

To create an assembly in Zoho Commerce:

  1. Go to Items > Assemblies in the left sidebar and click + New.
  2. Select the Composite Item you want to assemble, its SKU is shown below the field for reference.
  3. Enter the Assembly#, an optional Description, the Assembled Date, and the Quantity to Assemble.
  4. Select the Location where the assembly will be built.
  5. Review the Associated Items - the components are pre-populated with their Quantity Required, Total Qty Required, and Quantity Available. A warning indicator appears if any component is low or out of stock.
  6. If you have incurred additional costs such as rent, labour, or scrap during assembly, you can add them as a service item under Associated Items.
  7. Click Assemble to complete and update stock, or Save as Draft to finish later.
