# How do I delete my bank account in Zoho Books?

**Prerequisites:**

*   **Uncategorize** and **Unmatch** all categorized and matched transactions.
*   Exclude all other transactions linked to the bank account.
*   Delete any **Transaction Rule** that link this bank account to another account.

To delete a bank account:

*   Go to **Banking** on the left sidebar and select the account you want to delete.
*   Click the **Gear** icon at the top right corner and select **Delete** from the dropdown.
*   Click **Delete it** in the pop-up to confirm the deletion.

Once you complete these steps, your bank account will be deleted.

**Pro Tip:** If you do not want to access a bank account, you can mark the bank account **inactive** instead of permanently deleting it.

To mark a bank account inactive:

*   Go to **Banking** on the left sidebar and select the bank account you want to mark as inactive.
*   Click the **Gear** icon at the top right corner and select **Mark as Inactive** from the dropdown.
*   Click **Mark as Inactive** in the pop-up that appears to confirm marking the account as inactive.

Once you complete these steps, you can mark the account as inactive.
