# I tried converting an invoice into a credit note and received the following error “Credit note has not been approved”. How do I resolve this?

When generating a credit note from an open invoice in Zoho Books, credits are automatically used to balance out the invoice amount. However, if approval is configured for the Credit Notes module and the user doesn’t have approval access, an error is thrown.
