# Why should I fill the date field when importing a bank statement?

The date field in your bank statement plays a key role in helping Zoho Books find the best possible match for the transaction in the bank statement. After you import a bank statement, Zoho Books looks at the date and the amount field to suggest the best possible match for the statement line. Also, having the date mentioned in the statement line helps you to identify a payment at a glance.
