The Send Mail As section has all the settings for outgoing email address, email aliases, your external addresses etc. You can add your other email addresses in Zoho to be able to send emails from a single console. 

Display Name - Outgoing Emails

The Display Name in the Send Mail As section for each from email address/ email alias is how your name appears for the outgoing emails sent using that particular email address. 

Steps to change Display Name

  1. Login to https://www.zoho.com/mail 
  2. Select Settings >> Mail >> Send Mail As 
  3. Click the 'Edit' icon across the particular email address under 'Configured From addresses'
  4. In the 'Display Name' text box, provide the preferred Display Name 
  5. Click 'Update' to save the changes.
  6. You may have to provide your external SMTP password, in case you are updating the Display name for an external from address. 

Different 'From' Email Address

By default, your Zoho Email accounts email address will be the default from address for the account. Apart from that, you may have email aliases or Group aliases as From address, in case your domain email is hosted with Zoho. All Zoho based address will have a differentiated background, and you will not be able to delete those email addresses from the list. 

Apart from that, the users can also set up their other email address in Zoho, to send emails from the other accounts from Zoho Mail itseld. It is strongly recommended to use custom SMTP server settings (SMTP details provided by the other provider) to send emails from here. 


If you choose Zoho SMTP, You may be required to verify your email address through a verification process. Also using Zoho SMTP may result in 'On behalf Of' being displayed with your Zoho Mail email address in external email clients like Outlook, Gmail etc.  

Steps to Add Custom ‘From’ Address - Custom SMTP

You can set up your external From address to send emails using your own SMTP (Outgoing) servers. In this case, the email the recipients will not see 'On behalf of' seen in some email clients like Outlook

  1. Login to https://www.zoho.com/mail/
  2. Click Settings » Mail » Send Mail As
  3. Select ‘Add From Address’
  4. Specify the preferred Display name for the email address (This is how it will appear to the recipients).
  5. Specify the email address from which you want to send Email from, and choose 'Custom SMTP' to provide the server details.
  6. Provide the SMTP server name, Port, Authentication type, SSL details. 
  7. If authentication is required, provide the authentication credentials in the section.
  8. Click Send Verification
  9. If your server authenticates your credentials, the email address will be automatically added and the verification process will be automatically skipped. 
  10. If your server does not require authentication, you need to verify your email address using the verification code, before sending mail from that account.

Update Password for External From Address using custom SMTP

If you have changed your password in your source account, you will not be able to send emails, without updating the Password for the Outgoing Server. 

  1. Login to https://www.zoho.com/mail/
  2. Click Settings » Mail  » Send Mail As
  3. In the Zoho mail ‘Send Mail as’ page, click ‘Edit’ icon corresponding to the email address.
  4. Make the required changes in the Server Details and Outgoing Authentication
  5. Click Save to exit.

Steps to Add Custom ‘From’ Address - Zoho SMTP

When you add an email address to send email using Zoho SMTP, the recipients may see an 'On behalf of' tag along with your Zoho Email address. You can use the SMTP settings provided by your Email Service provider with your From address. Refer 'Steps to Add Custom 'From' Address - Custom SMTP below for instructions.

  1. Login to https://www.zoho.com/mail/
  2. Click Settings » Mail » Send Mail As
  3. Click ‘Add From Address’
  4. Specify the preferred Display name for the account
  5. Specify the email address from which you want to send Email from
  6. Select Zoho SMTP to send email using Zoho SMTP server - Some email clients may display your Zoho Email address and mention 'On behalf of' in the header section.
  7. Click Send Verification
  8. You have to verify your email address before sending mail from that account.

Steps to Verify the Custom ‘From’ Address

  1. Login to https://www.zoho.com/mail/
  2. Click Settings » Mail » Send Mail As
  3. In the Zoho mail ‘Send Mail as’ page, click ‘Verify’ icon corresponding to the email address.
  4. A dialog box requesting the confirmation code appears
  5. In the specified email address, you would have received a confirmation mail from Zoho.
  6. In the Zoho Mail dialog box, enter the Verification code sent in the confirmation email.
  7. Click Confirm to confirm and save the settings.
  8. You can also click resend, to resend the Confirmation code if you are unable to find the email from Zoho.

Associate Default ‘From’ Addresses for Accounts

Once you have added the Custom From Mail Addresses you can associate the different Email addresses to various accounts configured. Each time you open the composer in the account, the added ‘custom’ address will appear as the default from address for the account.

  1. Login to https://www.zoho.com/mail/
  2. Click Settings » Mail » Send Mail As
  3. In the right side, the different Mail Accounts (including POP accounts)  are listed
  4. Select the default From Address you want to associate for each address listed from the drop-down box
  5. You can choose a different From Address/ Alias to be associated as the default from address for each account.
